Tuareg desert blues with twists of reggae and rock n’ roll, Bombino’s Azel mixes the traditional with the modern. Tamasheq lyrics mix with reggae riffs and blistering, frenetic guitar solos to produce a wholly unique experience.
Reflecting that in the artwork was a challenge that Bombino, manager Eric Herman, and I analyzed in depth. We wanted to show Bombino as not just a force in world music, but also a Hendrix-esque guitar god. The resulting solution is a psychedelic mix of traditional Tuareg art with a more modern approach to composition and image making.
